RM 1-1 MUFC
Well what can i say? Such an intriguing match. First half it was a joy to watch, i thought personally United although they defended well could have pushed up a little further but when they did have possession RVP kept it brilliantly, technically so good, Kagawa showed how comfortable he is and how the big stage doesn’t faze him, he was very good with the ball and got himself out of trouble a few times relieving the pressure off his team mates, and Welbeck was just Welbeck, held onto the ball and drove it forward when he could, his energy and contribution to the team is vastly underrated.
Second half however Madrid applied the pressure and credit to them, because they restricted the possession we had hence why Kagawa in particular tailed off during the game, without enough possession for him to work on he couldn’t link up the play or make his behind-the-defence runs which caused the Madrid back-line many problems in the first half. Credit to Madrid for applying the pressure, it forced United further back into almost dangerous territory but they held firm, Ferdinand, Evans, De Gea, Carrick and Jones were solid, brilliant performances.
Ronaldo was a menace, and at any moment he was about to pull the trigger my heart was pounding, but apart from his marvellous header, we kept him fairly at bay especially in the second half. Madrid’s best players were undoubtedly Khedira and Di Maria.
Last words will go out to Wayne Rooney, we didn’t see the best of him but as he has done many times before he did a job for the team, and he did what was required of him, truly a special wonderful player who is so selfless. I expect him to have a greater impact in the second leg and with the tie still in the balance we will (i expect) see another classic between two footballing greats. March 5th, don’t miss it.
